90s Theme Week – 8th Grade graduation dress – Shudder to Chic!

This week we are stepping back into time back to the 90s!  We’re bringing you some vintage skirt remakes, and lots more skirt fun from the 90s.

This was my aunt’s eighth-grade graduation dress.

Uhhhhhhh…yeah. This is the peplum at it’s very worst.  (Sorry Auntie!)  There was no way I was being seen in public with THIS on!!! Anyway, the fabric is almost a silk, a really nice fabric with roses woven into the pattern. Here are the steps I used in this remake process.

#1. I cut the white peplum shoulder padded awfulness off of the black skirt part.

#2. I sewed the black skirt part onto a sparkly silver-trimmed denim mini I picked up at Goodwill for $2.50.

#3. I sewed a heart made out of the white fabric onto one of the back pockets.

Tada!  That was easy and fast!

Hey, how easy was that?!?!?! I love the way that this looks now! I wear this in public a lot now. It is so chic and stylish!  I paired it with a grey ruffle shirt and black velvet belt for the photo shoot.

Total Time: 1 hour

Total Cost: $2.50

Talent Level: Beginner Seamstress

Every time I wear this skirt out, I get so many complements!
