Dorothy’s Wizard of Oz Dress – Hideous to Happening!

We had so much fun with today’s refashion!  We started with a denim mini by TILT that we found at a thrift shop named Shelly’s Boutique. We are very indebted to Shelly’s Boutique because she supported what we’re doing, and it happened to be an end of summer sale, so we picked up this little cutie for $2.64!

We knew we needed it for the foundation because a while back at Goodwill we picked up this girl’s dress for $2!

Hideous, isn’t it?  Why would we ever buy this?  Well, the embroidery was keepable, and it completely reminded us of the Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz dress.

Can’t you totally see it?  Well, since we have neither a dog named Toto, nor red sparkly shoes, we knew this one needed a remake!

Here were our steps:

1: Cut off the bottom of the Dorothy  from the Wizard of Oz dress.

2: Sewed gather stitches around the top of what we’d just cut off.  It was so full, there was no way around this, just finger pinching pleats wasn’t going to cut it with this much fullness!

3: Pinned and sewed bottom of Dorothy dress to bottom of denim mini.

4: Fashioned a ribbon belt from some awesome vintage ribbon.

What do you think now?  “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore!”

Total Time: 15 minutes

Total Cost: $ 4.64

Talent Level: Intermediate Seamstress
