This week is Skirt Costume Week! At Skirt Fixation, we’ve been known to throw themed costume parties any time of year! There was the November Egyptian Feast, the Victorian Tea Party in March (you should have seen the awesome hats!) and the Medieval Feast in September. One Dad came dressed as a knight! We know a lot of people are thinking about costumes this week, and perhaps some of you are searching for some free costume ideas you can throw together yourself with minimum time and zero cost!! So this week that’s our treat for you! Some costume samples that are free and easy, AND include skirts!
Today we have two free girl costume ideas we are thrilled to share you! Number one is a gypsy costume that I helped Aria put together. Aria started with a long red velvet skirt that she doesn’t wear too often because it’s too ‘flashy’. Well, all the better for a costume, right! We put one of my large square scarves tied asymmetrically on top of the skirt. We added a puffy ruffled shirt to the outfit, and accessorized with a yellow knit blanket for a shawl, a faux diamond buckle belt, and a red ribbon headband. We think that the end result is a very realistic little gypsy!
That was an easy costume! The best costume is one that you can make from just an everyday essential. Of course we had to have a kitty in one picture!
Here, Kitty Kitty Kitty!
Remember we put this costume together with no sewing, for free with items we already had! Aaaaaand another picture to showcase my photoshopping skills!
For the second costume, Annie models ‘Robin Hooda’, a little girl Robin Hood version. She also started with one of her skirts, a little camouflage number from GAP kids. We put one of Aria’s shirts over that, as we were looking for a little puffiness in the shirt to create a tunic look. I fashioned a green costume dress into a little cape that I fastened with a blue clip-on rose. Annie accessorized with a brown ribbon belt, one of her brothers’ green felt hat with a feather, and a bow.
Isn’t she soo cute! I love that these two costumes have been put together with no cost and new sewing at all! Annie is adorable in this outfit and she loved the final version!
The best costumes are the ones that you make yourself, and they are even better if they cost nothing! We love to sew, but this week we’ve set aside the sewing machine, just to show you some free skirt costume ideas. How did you enjoy those free girl costume ideas? Leave us a comment about your own costume make in the comment section.
Always be Exciting,
