Recently Aria entered her teenage years. I’ve been sewing my children their birthday gifts for a while now (see what I made for Aria last year.) Aria has been expressing admiration at both my Senna Tote and the miniature one I made for Annie’s Modern Chloris mini wardrobe collection, so that is what I chose to make for her. I’ve dubbed this one the Honeybee Senna Tote.
I decided to make Aria’s at 70%, so printed the Senna Tote pattern pieces at that percentage and added a little bit to the edges for seam allowances.
It turned out medium size. (Try not to squint too hard from the mismatched fabrics, this photo is for size reference only!) The dimensions of the Honeybee Senna Tote are: 12.5 L x 12 H x 3.5 W.
In all the fabrics and material I gathered for these Senna Totes, nature and earthy was my goal. I used Echino Decoro Bees Kokka fabric from Urban Sew for the main fabric. Because of the weight of this fabric (it’s basically canvas) I didn’t need to use a canvas interlining, so less cutting!
The denim on the Honeybee Senna Tote is from a pair of jeans and a denim skirt. The handles and back pocket are from the jeans and the lining is from the skirt.
For the bottom of the Honeybee Senna Tote, I used some embossed pleather I had in my stash. I have no clue where it came from before it was in the stash, but here is something similar you could use. Deadwood Faux Leather Chocolate Fabric (affiliate link)
For the front pocket, I used the same gold fabric I used on my Senna Tote because it reminded me of the color of honey. And since there were already bees and flowers on the Honeybee Senna Tote, there had to be honey too!
I’m linking this Honeybee Senna Tote up to Purse Palooza 2015 over at Sew Sweetness with absolutely no expectations to win the contest. Why? Because there are some AH-mazing purses, totes, clutches and wallets linked up there. Serious talent!
So you may be wondering why there are 2 of these Honeybee Senna Totes in the photos. Well, the Skirt Fixation team has decided to reopen our shop, so keep your eyes peeled for the grand opening! You can now buy this Senna Tote in our Etsy shop.
I love this tote! Actually, I love ALL the versions you’ve made. Especially the mini ones! And because now I am going to go over and purchase the pattern…. ❤
