3 Knit Skirts for a Toddler

Burgundy, Mustard & Pink Toddler Capsule Wardrobe created by Skirt Fixation

Is there anything cuter than a toddler in a skirt? We couldn’t think of anything either! However, a skirt on a toddler is not quite the most practical thing in the world, so today we’re sharing 3 knit skirts we sewed for our toddler girl and how we made them VERY practical. These skirts are part of the burgundy, pink and mustard capsule wardrobe we sewed her earlier this year.

The first one is this burgundy knit skirt. Here are the details:

Pattern: #106 from Thread Faction

Fabric: Burgundy double brushed poly

We made this skirt insanely practical for a toddler by sewing in SHORTS underneath. Let the somersaults commence!

In case you’re wondering what it looks like when you tell a two year old to smile!

Here is the burgundy skirt with the infamous kitty shirt! (Free tutorial here) And also, she and her brother were SO pleased to have matching shirts! (We reviewed his shirt here.)

Here’s a quick glimpse of the burgundy skirt with the 3rd shirt in the capsule wardrobe! This combination might have been my favorite…but I probably said that every day with each different outfit from the capsule!

The next skirt we’ll share is this really fun one! Our girl LOVES texture and this FREE skirt pattern fit the bill perfectly. Here are the details:

Pattern: Onstage Tutu Skirt from Oliver+S

Fabric: Mustard on off-white Modal jersey knit

Tulle: Gold Tulle matches mustard better than yellow tulle

As you can see, this skirt goes great with any of the 3 shirts we sewed her for this burgundy, mustard and pink capsule wardrobe.

Sadly, the tulle layer on this skirt caught on something and tore quite badly. So we cut it off and the skirt is still completely wearable! And that’s how we made tulle practical for a toddler!

The 3rd skirt is a lightweight knit fabric. It also is made practical by the shorts underneath.

Pattern: #106 from Thread Faction

Fabric:  Pink triblend – similar here

This is what it looks like when a 2 year old gives herself bunny ears. Errr, rather kitty ears!

This skirt also works nicely with all 3 of the shirts in the capsule wardrobe. Sewing a skirt is about the quickest garment you can sew, and sewing for a young girl uses so little fabric it’s really hard not to sew her up 100 skirts with all the leftover scraps from every knit project!
