I envisioned this outfit for the first time over 20 years ago! The details escape me now, but somewhere there was a navy pinstripe skirt and I fell in love. However, taking into consideration my 6′ height, the look I wanted was not achievable so the idea of a navy pinstripe skirt was filed away in the recesses of my brain.

All these years later, the perfect fabric entered the scene! This is Navy Pinstripe Linen and Tencel fabric from Blackbird Fabrics. They also carried it in black last time I checked. It’s perfect for making a woven version of the Runway Skirt (which we share about in detail here too.)

I’m positive I already have things to wear with this skirt, but the vision existed and wouldn’t be denied of a mustard Phoenix Blouse with lace trim on the yoke. I decided to use a rayon/linen blend. It creates a top with more structure than a 100% rayon Phoenix Blouse (like these two) but is still very wearable. Plus SUPER breathable for hot, humid summer wear.

And besides, just LOOK at the detail of the mustard and white lace together!

The godets in the back of this navy pinstripe skirt are made with viscose rayon challis fabric. It’s the best quality rayon challis I’ve ever worked with, and will probably refuse to work with any other in the future! This fabric is just part of what makes this navy pinstripe skirt a dream come true.

This outfit is part of my 2019 Make 9 plans for the year. If you’re keeping track, this is outfit number 4 completed and blogged! Which means there are 5 more coming soon…I’m a little behind on the blogging part, but I THINK I’m on track for the sewing part.
