This pattern is amazing!!! We now have a board shorts pattern we’ll be using until they outgrow the size range. Enter the Cobalt Boardshorts pattern from the Project Watercolor Beach collection from Project Run & Play. We sewed up 3 versions for 3 of our boys. Special thanks to Kalli June Photographyfor the beautiful photography.
Cobalt Boardshorts #1:
David definitely needed a new swimsuit for this summer. He’s grown a lot, and we snatched the opportunity to sew some for him.
For David’s board shorts, we sewed the Bermuda length with a faux fly and drawstring. He of course got pockets, and a swim lining. These are a size 7 with 1 inch added to the length. He is delighted with these board shorts!
These Cobalt Boardshorts are sewn using Palm Leaves Board Short fabric from Knit Fabric.com. This is not only gorgeous fabric, but really easy to work with too.
Cobalt Boardshorts #2:
Lowell didn’t exactly “need” new board shorts (especially since David is passing his old ones down) but when we measured him and we could sew him the exact same size as David, it was too easy! Plus he got to be matching to baby, so…
For his board shorts, we sewed the Bermuda length with a faux fly, pockets, and a swim lining. These are a size 7, the same as David, but no length added. He is delighted with these board shorts too! After sewing David’s we noticed how the side seams are actually set forward, and we had to accentuate this fact with some contrast color piping in the side seams. Plus we used contrasting top stitching thread for an extra zing.
Cobalt Boardshorts #3:
Baby didn’t have any, so new board shorts were in order! Matching to big brother of course.
For his board shorts, we sewed the Bermuda length with a faux fly, pockets, and a swim lining. These are a size 2T. We had to accentuate those side seams with some contrast color flat piping in the side seams. Plus we used contrasting top stitching thread for an extra zing.
