Remember the pink bunny coat? Sad but true story, it accidentally got put through the dryer, and because it was sewn from a wool blanket, it shrunk. Really, REALLY shrunk! So Tina was promised another pink bunny garment. Enter the Chromium Cropped Hoodie pattern from the Project Watercolor Beach collection by Project Run & Play! Special thanks to Kalli June Photographyfor the beautiful photography in this post.
We sewed the View A with short sleeves, a vented hem band, and bunny ears. Tina measured right at a size 2T, so that’s what we sewed. It has enough ease that it should last her all summer!
We chose to sew the vented hem band because, well, we never sewed one before! We’re always looking for ways to “level up” our sewing, and learning new techniques is a good way to improve your sewing skills. Spoiler alert: it was easy and fun! We’re totally going to use this method on a pattern in adult size for sure.
Fabric used for the Chromium Cropped Hoodie: Burgundy French Terry from CaliFabrics Instead of using a contrast fabric for the inside of the ears and the hem band, we decided to use the wrong side of the fabric for that. We even “hemmed” the short sleeves by turning them to the right side instead of under to the wrong side! I’ll admit that several times I did have to remind myself that the wrong side was now the right side on certain areas!
With the big comfy loops on the back side of this french terry, this little hoodie is definitely going to be one of her favorite things to wear. Speaking of awesome things, I know you’re wondering about the car! This 1970s Buick GSX was loaned to us for the photoshoot by Bret Voelkel of Fox Powered Vehicles Group. Stunner, right? The whole photoshoot was made into a 70s themed “Here Comes the Sun” photo essay in the Project Watercolor Beach lookbook. It starts on page 132, but the whole lookbook is worth your time!
This pattern is designed by Ajaire of Call Ajaire for the Project Run & Play Project Watercolor Beach collection. She also designed a cute pattern called the Ultramarine Coverup that we can’t wait to sew too.
