We’re delighted to be sharing about the Frances Leggings pattern today!  This is another new pattern in the Project Run & Play shop for the Back to Learning event.

The Frances Leggings are a super fast-to-sew staple pattern.  There is no hemming.  The end.  But really, we’re so delighted to be able to sew this new pattern in the Project Run & Play shop!    And these took me about 20 minutes to sew, so seriously fast!

For Tina, we sewed a size 2 and the only change we made was to add 2 inches to the length.  The Frances Leggings don’t require hemming because there is a cuff at the bottom.  Another thing that makes them fast to sew is the way the elastic waistband is constructed.  I don’t know about everyone else, but it really slows me down when I have to insert elastic using a safety pin or bodkin.  But that’s usually the way pattern directions instruct you to construct a waistband.  (Say that sentence fast 3 times!)  Anyway, there’s no safety pin insertion with this pattern, you just sew the elastic in a circle and fold the waistband over it.  Doing it this way also means you can sew the whole pattern using a serger (which sews way faster than a sewing machine.  Are you sensing a theme here?)

For the fabric, I just grabbed leftover scraps from my knit scrap bin.  The grey pair is made form stretch sweatshirt fabric, so VERY soft and comfy!

The pink pair is actually made from two slightly different shades of pink fabric leftover from different projects.  What can I say?  It was night when I was sewing these and I didn’t notice until they were sewn and in the daylight the next morning.  Oh well, Tina will just be wearing them under dresses and skirts, so no biggie, right?  We’ll call it a design feature!

Speaking of wearing these Frances Leggings under dresses and skirts, my kids always outgrow their clothes in height before girth!  So leggings are a must to stretch almost too short skirts and dresses into another season.  Tina is wearing a Janie Dress with her Frances Leggings here…and they are making the dress last into the next season!

The Frances Leggings are on sale in the Project Run & Play shop right now, but at any price they’re a really good deal!  They can be sewn in 15 different sizes from 3M to 12 YR.  Needless to say, we’ll be using this pattern for quite some time!  This pattern has photo illustrations, and is very easy to follow the instructions.  I think if you were sewing your first pair of leggings, this would be a great pattern to use.  And obviously, if you’re sewing your 100th pair, you’d really appreciate the simplicity!
