Sorbetto Swimsuit Pattern Review

The final garment pattern in the Project Smooth Sorbet pattern collection is the Sorbetto Swimsuit pattern! We LOVE sewing our own swimwear, and were so excited to try out this pattern because it has a couple of really neat features.

The Sorbetto Swimsuit PDF pattern is for a swimsuit or leotard with color blocking and an optional uttery statement sleeve. The V shape in both the front and back necklines make this swimsuit unique, while the sleeves cover both style and function. The sleeves are just flowy enough to help protect those little shoulders, but not so long that they will interfere with swimming or playing. If you choose not to use the sleeve, the colorblocking around the arm and side seam adds plenty of interest to the sporty shape. There are views for both maillot or tankini and two bottoms options. One is a colorblocked bottom that subtly mimics the top, but each view can use either the banded elastic waistband or the standard elastic turn and stitch waist. Both are mid rise with a modest leg. All pieces are fully lined and there is an optional shelf bra for those in the top range of the sizing.  For those on the lower range, there is the option for a diaper snap panel, which makes changing into a swim diaper a breeze.

Of course we had to make a muslin first as Annie is SO tall and thin! We grabbed swim fabric from our stash and sewed her a really fun version to check the fit.

The fit turned out really close, and so we moved on to the lemon stripe awesome swim fabric we had from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. (They really do have the best selection of swimwear fabrics!)

This swimsuit coordinates with all of the bottoms we sewed for her, so she can wear any of them for a cover up to and from the pool!

And then later she requested a swim skirt, so we used the Bodhi Board Skirt pattern and some royal blue board shorts fabric from Knitfabric.com and made one that matches both her new suits!
